Solar ESCO develops solar energy project in TongHong Vietnam Tannery factory
On July 3, 2019, at Tong Hong Vietnam Tannery, specializing in manufacturing sports shoes (at Lot II-1, My Xuan A2 Industrial Park, Xa My Xuan, Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria Vung Tau ) took place the 460-kWp-capacity solar system’s Grid Connection Ceremony. The project was developed by Solar ESCO Joint Stock Company, a member of SolarBK and directly installed on Tong Hong’s roof by Solar ESCO’s capital.
The project has a total installing capacity of 460 kWp, producing about 679,530 kWh of electricity per year for TongHong. When the solar power system begins to operate this June, TongHong Tannery Vietnam will reduce emissions by about 578 tons of CO2 per year. Without spending the initial investment, TongHong still saves at least 5% of cost per kWh and contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions on each product, contributing to achieving the standards set by the brand. After 15 years (time by the Agreement), Solar ESCO will hand over the solar power system and TongHong will continue to use it for next 10-15 years.
As one of PUMA – Germany’s large multinational company specializing in manufacturing footwear and sports accessories ‘s strategic supply chain factories, TongHong is required to conform the environmental policy that PUMA applied to supplier. One of the requirements by Puma is to limit the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in production process, that the installing of the solar system is an effective and easy-to-measure solution.
Through the VIP Program on Clean Energy and Energy Saving, promoting Sustainable Production in the Textile and Apparel Industry of the International Finance Centre (IFC) in partnership with a number of global brands including PUMA, Solar ESCO was shortlisted for being prestige suppliers who work directly with TongHong. In a short time, by the efforts of both parties, TongHong & SolarESCO officially signed an Agreement and choosed SolarBK – a leading enterprise having experience and competence in solar power industry in Vietnam, to implement the solar power project for the factory in Vung Tau.
In this project, Solar ESCO will directly participate in the development and the investment of the solar power system, using IREX’s solar panels, SolarBK’s engineering and construction competence following TongHong’s specific requirements. With the advantage of being part of SolarBK’s complete value chain, from solar panel and cell producing technology, remote monitoring technology, to ability of implementing of many large-scale solar power projects, Solar ESCO is considered a prestigious partner for many consulting and financial organizations in realizing ESCO model in Vietnam.
By ESCO (Energy Service Company) form of investment, Solar ESCO will provide total solution from consulting, designing, installing, operating, financing, energy system managing at the customer company’s facility and earn based on the energy saving efficiency brought by the system. This could be a popular energy-saving cooperation and investment type in the world, in which the project developer and investor (Solar ESCO), the beneficiary company (TongHong) and the community all benefit. TongHong does not spend the initial investment, saving electricity cost and meeting the emission reduction standard set by PUMA. Meanwhile, Solar ESCO must always ensure a stable operation system to obtain the electricity charge from TongHong, ensuring the project’s investment efficiency after 15 years.
Obviously, cooperating with SolarESCO to apply solar power project helps companies like TongHong produce green energy from empty rooftop area, making profit without investment, managing risks and saving the power usage cost. More importantly, the companies are also building a green and environmentally friendly image – one of the priority benchmarks in selecting partners and brand evaluation in many places in the world.
Recently, not only fulfilling the solar power project for TongHong, Solar ESCO has also been implementing many other solar power projects like ICD Tan Cang Song Than (500.96 kWp), Vincom Da Nang (226 kWp), HCMC Polytechnic University (166 kWp), EVN’s projects,… By the end of 2019, the capacity of developing new projects has reached 15 MWp.
Speech by Mr. Chen Chun Chi – Deputy General Director Tong Hong Vietnam
For the past 30 years, the cooperation between Tonghong and the world’s major brands provided us a good foundation to promote environmental protection. Two years ago, Director Zhong met PUMA at a meeting in Hong Kong. PUMA gave our team more information about environmental policies. Because previously we had also spent many time learning solar and wind energy technology, we perceived this is a good opportunity, PUMA can an give us help in getting a solar energy system to reduce the carbon emissions. We also thank you IFC and PUMA for supporting TongHong and cooperating in carrying out the Solar Energy Project in TongHong, which makes TongHong’s carbon emission reduction plan have first steady step. We will continue to expand this project to increase the renewable energy ratio and reduce the carbon emissions. Thank you again for supporting the Solar Energy Project in TongHong.
